Computer viruses are an ongoing problem across the Internet. OIT now scans incoming email for viruses and cleans up infected messages. This protection is available only to messages sent to your @UCI.EDU address. SE Computing installs McAfee anti-virus for the Macs and uses built in Microsoft Defender for PC's for anti-virus protection. If you believe your anti-virus is out of date please send an email to se.computing@uci.edu. Here are some tips to prevent from being infected by viruses:
- Do not open emails from addresses that you are not familiar with.
- Avoid opening emails or web pages that have free offers.
- Avoid visiting web sites that offer free computer virus scanning.
- UCI WILL NEVER ask for your password or username.
